Gabriella comes from a well off family. Her father, Alejandro, is an investment banker who due to his intelligence and cunning made out quite well in the recent economic downturn. Being from a well off family isn't as great as it may seem. Her mother, Michelle, was distant at best caring more about being a socialite than caring for her kids; her father has always had a cool detachment with his daughter but that likely had much to do with his focus on his son, Brian, the heir apparent. Brian and Gabby were close growing up until they hit their teens when their father started grooming Brian.
Left to her own devices Gabby turned to partying. She is the quintessential girl with daddy issues as her father never paid her ANY attention (and her mother only did so when she had recitals growing up or to scold her "barbaric behavior.")
Senior year she got involved with the school paper at her father's insistence she prepare for college. She landed a spot writing the gossip column and found she was not only good at it but she enjoyed it...not the job itself but the chaos it seemed to cause amongst her classmate when she spilled a good secret (like Billy cheating on Emily with his best friend Scott.) Gabby has since given up her out of control partying and uses her social talents in a more constructive way.
Gabby met her real father, Tezcatlipoca, at a most opportune time. She was laying in a park bleeding out from two long cuts up the veins in her arms. He healed her and told her he accepted her; she is destined to overcome her past, not suffer continually from it. He explained who and what she was and more importantly what is expected of her. Gabby doesn't understand her father's need for sacrifices and is fine with giving of her self...she just doesn't know what she will do if and when he asks more of her. Tez left her with her gun before returning her to her home.
Once home Gabby confronted her father about her lineage (though in vaguest of terms.) Alejandro sat calmly in his chair as Gabby screamed all her frustrations at him. When she was finished and near tears he calmly said only a few words to her, "As I have told you before, we do what is necessary to avoid black marks on the family. I claimed you to prevent such a mark." At this point he stands and Gabriella has never felt more like a child and more scared than at this moment, "You will NOT do anything to tarnish this family. If you do it will be the end of you. Leave now."
More terrified of her father than she ever had been before Gabriella did the only she knew how to...she went to a club. After an hour of drinking, dancing, and smoking she was feeling more like her self.
Months passed and graduation day came and went. Gabby spent her time partying and writing. 2 weeks into her summer her father called her to his office. Timidly she entered. Her father informed her that she would be attending Harmon University...not Columbia. It took all of her self control not to explode right there. She merely nodded meekly and left.
This of course sent her off to another night of partying. Dancing, drinking, smoking and sex. Gabby found someone entertaining enough and was about to follow him to his car when 1 of the tallest, largest, ugliest man she'd ever seen walked into the club. He had flame red hair and his eyes seemed like they had fire dancing in them. Suddenly she felt herself go stiff and a vision came to her...this man was going kill everyone in here and she needed that gun.
Gabby felt herself go weak as the vision ended and the man seemed to light himself on fire...the room exploded into chaos as people were trying to flee. He just grabbed them and tore them like little pieces of paper. Jolted out of her fatigue Gabby didn't even think twice.
She thought about her weapon and it appeared. It shifted to a machete and she threw it at his eye before running after it, leaping and tumbling over and around the people. She had just landed on the man intending to yank out the machete and slash him with it when she realized he really was on fire and it burned where ever she touched him. Gabby tried to leap away but he caught her, "There you are my tasty treat!" the man (giant? she thought) said as he caught her in his grip. Just as he was about to tear her apart a man she recognized stepped forward. It was her father, Tezcatlipoca. The man dropped her when he saw the god and started to whimper, and before she knew what was happening the whimper became a gurgle as Tez crushed his throat.
Turning to his daughter, "I see you may need more protections than what I have given." He pulled Gabriella up and spun her around ripping off her top. Tez traced a Jaguar onto her back and she could feel the power he was placing into the mark. "This is Tepini. Call his name and he will aid you." With that Tezcatlipoca vanished.
The cops arrived and Gabby was able to talk her way out of it (well it's not hard when the cop they send to question you is someone you've slept with) and get home before sunrise. Before passing out she couldn't help but count how many friends she lost that night but sent a thank you to her father....could he even hear her?
The rest of the summer was uneventful, thankfully, and she used her time to start studding different myths, but Gabby couldn't help but feel it was only the calm before the storm...
